World Cup: Day 7

Hello pool players –

And the World Cup rolls on. Chile got its first win in 48 years (1-0) over Honduras, continuing a thus far undefeated performance by the teams from South America. Spain-Switzerland followed with the upset of the tournament (0-1), and Spain faces an uphill battle to make the second round. 73 of the entries in our pool have Spain at least making the semis.

With Group A’s second round, it is highly likely we will see the first host country miss the knockout stage as the vuvuzelas finally fell silent on Uruguay’s third goal. Mexico surprised France 2-0 meaning Uruguay is leading Mexico by one in goal differential. France will have to win big over South Africa to advance – and hope that Mexico and Uruguay don’t play to a gentleman’s draw that ensures both move on. Mexico though should be incented to win to avoid Argentina…

In Group B, Argentina let it loose against South Korea 4-1 with Messi’s good work earning Higuain the tournament’s first hat trick. Greece got its first goals and win ever in a comeback against 10 Nigerians (2-1). Argentina could still miss the second round -- if they lose to Greece by 5 and South Korea beats Nigeria by 5 – but the experts are indicating this is unlikely to happen. Nigeria is the first team eliminated from the competition.

And, in our pool no one remains perfect -- Ben and Isabella are tied for first place with two misses each.

Go USA!
Chris
